My 5 Baby Sleep Essentials

Let’s get real. We could buy absolutely everything on offer and still feel like we don’t have enough before our little one’s make their big arrival. Oh how I wish I could have a chat with myself during my pregnancy and say “Lucy, put down the babygrows”.

We live in a world where we no longer have to wait. Amazon can have things on our doorstep hours after ordering and many supermarkets open 24 hours and sell most baby essentials for those last minute dashes.

There is though a real fine line between what you need and what you buy and with this in mind, I have shared the 5 baby sleep essentials I could have not done without.

Good quality muslin clothes

These are still lifesavers for me each day. Those that are a little thicker and larger are the best in my opinion. My top tip is to put them over the top of the baby's mattress and it will catch any spit ups and stop you having to change the full sheets.

Love2Dream Swaddles

Different to the traditional bandage style swaddling, these cute suits are like little cozy sacks that have a dual zip (really quick and simple to get access for those night nappies), making our little ones super snug, safely positioned and at a constant temperature. I still have their sleeping bags for my 16 month old boy. I love love love them.

Zip Up Baby Grows

Full disclaimer - I have never used a button up babygrow. Call me lazy or a genius but I really believe zip up baby grows are the way forward. Many under one year suits are dual zipped too so you don’t have to fully undress your baby. Score! They are so quick to get on/off your little one and most come with integrated hand covers to help keep scratches and cold hands at bay.

Blackout Blind

I feel like every parent should be gifted one of these when they have a baby. They are complete game changers and unless you live underground or in a cupboard, that window will let in light which will be like a moth to a flame in those early hours when your little one is easily stimulated. I highly recommend the Gro Anywhere blackout blind. It's huge, easy to transport when you travel and great at banishing any unwanted light.

Ergonomic Baby Carrier

The best money we spent was on our Ergobaby Baby Omni 360 carrier. At one point I used it multiple times a day and we still use it several times a week 16 months down the line. There are so many baby carriers available and ultimately it’s down to your preference however one key thing I always advise to focus on is the safety and design features for parents as well as baby. You need to feel supported as much as the baby. Many parents struggle with back/neck/hip pain from already carrying their baby so ensure you've got something that’s going to not add to this and enhance the beautiful experience of having your baby so close to you.
